[비즈한국] With the heat followed by heavy rain, summer is fast approaching. In a year made difficult by high inflation and high oil prices, why not save on your summer vacation costs by utilizing accommodation discount coupons?
The 'Accommodation Sale Festa,' organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization, is kicking off its summer promotion. They are distributing 300,000 accommodation discount coupons that can be used in 85 non-metropolitan areas experiencing population decline, excluding Seoul, Incheon, and Gyeonggi-do.
The distribution period for the discount coupons runs from June 11 to July 31, and they can be used for domestic accommodations such as hotels, condos, resorts, and pensions with check-in dates within this period. A total of 240,000 coupons for stays of one night or more and 60,000 coupons for consecutive-night stays will be distributed. The newly added coupons for consecutive-night stays offer a 70,000 won discount for reservations of 140,000 won or more, and a 50,000 won discount for reservations under 140,000 won.
Starting at 10 a.m. on June 11, the coupons will be available through 30 online travel agency (OTA) channels, including NOL, Yeogi Eottae, and MyRealTrip. Any citizen aged 19 or older can receive one coupon per person on a first-come, first-served basis. To use the discount coupon, the reservation must be completed between 10 a.m. on the day of issuance and 7 a.m. the following day. Unused coupons will automatically expire, and a new one can be re-issued from 10 a.m. the following day.
This event was prepared to revitalize domestic summer travel and inject vitality into local economies struggling with population decline. A government supplementary budget of 11.2 billion won has been allocated.
Kang Dong-jin, Director General of Tourism Policy at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, stated, "This 'Summer Accommodation Sale Festa' was designed to ease the burden of travel costs for citizens during this era of high oil prices and to boost economic vitality in areas experiencing population decline. We hope that many citizens will use these accommodation discount coupons to stay an extra day in these regions and discover their charms anew."
