Yeonhui-dong home owned by Kim Man-bae's sister seized... previously purchased from Yoon Suk Yeol's father

[비즈한국] It has been confirmed that a house in Yeonhui-dong, Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, owned by Kim Myeong-ok, the older sister of Hwacheon Daeyu majority shareholder Kim Man-bae, has been seized by the government. Kim Myeong-ok purchased the house in April 2019 from the late Yoon Ki-jung, a professor emeritus at Yonsei University and the father of former President Yoon Suk Yeol. The specific reason for the seizure has not been disclosed, but given that the Yangcheon District Tax Office is registered as the disposing authority, it appears to be due to tax delinquency.

At the time of the housing transaction, allegations of a cartel between the former President Yoon and Kim Man-bae were raised; in response, the former President's side explained, "We sold it urgently due to Professor Yoon Ki-jung's health issues," and added that "the price was significantly lower than the market rate."

According to the real estate register, Kim Myeong-ok's Yeonhui-dong house was confirmed to have been seized by the state in June of this year. The disposing authority is the Yangcheon District Tax Office. Ms. Kim currently lists her address as a villa in Mok-dong, Yangcheon-gu, and this villa was also seized by the Yangcheon District Tax Office in May of this year (Related article: [Exclusive] 'Cheonhwa Dongin No. 3 Headquarters' Mok-dong Villa owned by Kim Man-bae's sister seized).

The Yangcheon District Tax Office did not disclose the specific reason for the seizure, citing personal information. There is only speculation that the Yeonhui-dong home was seized because Kim Myeong-ok failed to pay her taxes. The National Tax Collection Act states, "If a taxpayer fails to pay national taxes or arrears in full by the designated deadline after receiving a demand notice or a notice for collection before the due date, forced collection shall be carried out in accordance with the procedures of property seizure, and the sale, collection, and liquidation of seized property."

This house was previously seized by Seodaemun-gu in December 2023 as well. Given that the seizure was made by the Seodaemun-gu Tax Division, it is interpreted that tax delinquency was the reason at that time as well. The seizure by Seodaemun-gu was lifted in January 2024.
