[비즈한국] Recently, the idol audition platform 'Ardy' has been gaining attention. Just six months after its launch, about 70 agencies have joined the platform, and over 6,000 members have signed up. Ardy is a type of platform previously unseen in the existing entertainment market. It provides an opportunity to become a 'trainee' without having to audition for large agencies or attend idol academies in the capital region. However, it remains to be seen whether it will actually become a gateway to a professional debut.

The structure of Ardy allows aspiring idols to register their profiles, which are then viewed by casting directors from member agencies who can send audition or trainee offers. Profile registration is free. 1-on-1 feedback or lessons from active singers can be requested for a fee. Currently, about 70 agencies, including HYBE352820, Starship, P NATION, and Jellyfish, are participating.
Compared to existing idol audition methods, the barrier to entry has been lowered. Previously, it was standard to personally apply for open auditions held by major agencies or go through private auditions via academies in the Seoul area. For idol hopefuls living in the provinces, physical distance and costs were significant barriers.
The Ardy platform highlights the fact that agencies can access a large database of aspirants, while aspirants can gain opportunities without regional or financial constraints.

However, concerns are also being raised. It is unclear whether the platform will lead to actual trainee contracts or an idol debut. If a legal dispute arises after a trainee contract is signed through Ardy, the platform's liability remains ambiguous. As profiles are registered online, there are also concerns about identity theft or unauthorized use of personal information. While users can currently set the visibility of their profiles, the process for deleting a profile requires a separate request.
An official from Ardy explained, "We built this service to provide fair opportunities to idol hopefuls in various regions, including those in the provinces and overseas, rather than limiting it to Seoul." They added, "We provide profile uploads and level tests for free. Even if one cannot afford an academy, they can still become an idol. The participating agencies also evaluate that it allows for efficient talent discovery."
Ardy plans to expand its regular feedback auditions and launch premium educational services within the second half of this year.
