[비즈한국] The domestic combat sports organization Angel's Fighting Championship (AFC) is pushing to host events back in Korea. In recent years, AFC has held numerous events in Vietnam, where it receives significant levels of sponsorship, unlike in its home country. Another event is scheduled to take place in Vietnam on December 6.
As AFC has focused its efforts on Vietnam, its activities within Korea have not been what they once were. The AFC operating entity, 'AFC,' was even once treated as being in a state of "deemed dissolution." This occurred because the corporation failed to make mandatory periodic filings with the competent court (Related article: AFC, the combat sports organization previously sponsored by Daeyang Construction, placed in 'deemed dissolution' status).
AFC stated that it was a simple oversight and that they immediately filed the necessary reports with the court. According to the corporate registry, the AFC entity completed its "company continuation" registration on October 13 of this year. This registration is required for a corporation to recover from a state of deemed dissolution and return to normal operations.
As a Korean combat sports organization, AFC has many Korean fighters on its roster. For the athletes, frequent trips to Vietnam for matches can be a burden. Furthermore, there is a considerable desire among domestic combat sports fans for AFC to hold events in Korea.
In response, AFC announced that it plans to hold events in Korea in the near future. In the past, Daeyang Construction often sponsored AFC events held in Korea. However, with Daeyang Construction recently facing external pressures, the environment makes it difficult for them to provide sponsorship. Even if they were to sponsor, it would be difficult to provide a large amount given the company's current scale.
AFC stated that there would be no issues with holding domestic events even without sponsorship from Daeyang Construction. Park Ho-joon, CEO of AFC, said, "We have been investing for the past 10 years," adding, "If we were in a position where the money invested by Daeyang Construction was so critical that we couldn't function without it, we wouldn't have been able to hold these events in the first place."
