[비즈한국] A solo exhibition by artist Beatha (Kim Hyun-sook), who paints ‘journeys for happiness,’ is set to open. From October 15 to 20, she will present approximately 20 works at Gaon Gallery in Gwanhun-dong, Seoul, under the title ‘Trifles. Small Things. Smiles.’
‘Trifles. Small Things. Smiles.’ embodies the meaning of finding small everyday happiness in trivial things that are easily overlooked and wearing a lovely smile as a result.
Artist Beatha mainly paints women and children who resemble characters from Western fairy tales, and her rounded lines and colorful palettes convey a bright, warm, and kind feeling. Elements such as orange trees laden with fruit and yellow lemon trees symbolize energy and harvest, while simultaneously reflecting the idyllic life the artist strives for.
The artist stated, "To me, painting is a journey of self-discovery and a continuous dialogue with myself," adding, "I want to create a sanctuary through art where the audience can reconnect with themselves, even if just for a moment."
The series presented in this exhibition is based on an exploration of the connection between nature and humanity, aiming to visually capture the peace and harmony that can be felt in a modest daily life. The fairy-tale-like world she paints reminds us of the happiness hidden in the small moments of life.
The artist remarked, "Happiness is not far away; it is right beside me now. These small things comfort me, allow me to dream unpredictable dreams, and give me the strength to welcome the happiness of tomorrow once again," adding, "I hope that visitors will find a little bit of comfort by looking at the vibrant colors and peaceful natural landscapes in my work."
Artist Beatha graduated from the Department of Craft at Chung-Ang University and has participated in numerous art fairs and group exhibitions, in addition to holding 12 solo exhibitions. She was selected as a 2025 Gangdong Young Artist by the Gangdong Cultural Foundation.
The exhibition is open for viewing daily from 10:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and admission is free.
