[비즈한국] An analysis of the domestic new car market in June 2025 reveals distinct characteristics for both domestic and imported car models.
According to the CarIsYou Data Research Institute on the 3rd, Kia000270 topped the domestic brand sales rankings with 43,189 units (up 10.4% from the same month last year), followed by Hyundai (40,091 units, +16.8%), Genesis (10,562 units, -8.5%), and Renault Korea (4,798 units, +148.2%). Notably, Renault Korea saw a significant sales surge of 148.2% compared to the same month last year. KGM (3,078 units, -23.4%) and Chevrolet (1,266 units, -35.5%) both saw declines.
In the imported car brand rankings, BMW maintained its lead with 6,553 units (up 6.4% from the same month last year), followed by Tesla (6,377 units, +20.5%), Mercedes-Benz (6,034 units, -9.4%), Lexus (1,231 units, +17.6%), Volvo (1,068 units, -26.4%), Porsche (1,056 units, +294.0%), Audi (1,041 units, +15.5%), Toyota (809 units, +22.4%), MINI (775 units, +3.9%), and Volkswagen (717 units, +79.3%). Porsche and Volkswagen, in particular, experienced substantial sales growth of 294.0% and 79.3%, respectively, compared to the same month last year.
In the domestic car segment, the Kia Sorento took first place with 8,083 units (up 10.8% from the same month last year). The Sorento maintained its lead by consistently appealing to family consumers due to its excellent cost-effectiveness, spacious interior, and superior fuel efficiency. It also recorded high popularity across various age groups, thanks to its sophisticated design and latest safety features.
The Hyundai Avante followed in second place with 7,068 units, attracting young consumers who prioritize economic value and fuel efficiency. Sales of the Avante surged by 55.0% compared to the same month last year. The Kia Carnival ranked third with 7,012 units (-7.8%), favored by families and leisure seekers for its ample cargo space and excellent convenience amenities.
Rounding out the top 10 were the Sportage (Kia, 6,022 units, +7.8%), Palisade (Hyundai, 5,872 units, +358.8%), Santa Fe (Hyundai, 5,364 units, +12.1%), Seltos (Kia, 5,143 units, -2.0%), Grandeur (Hyundai, 4,936 units, -8.1%), Ray (Kia, 4,328 units, +17.8%), and Tucson (Hyundai, 4,308 units, +2.3%), highlighting the strength of SUV models. Notably, the Palisade showed remarkable growth, increasing by 358.8% compared to the same month last year.
In the imported car segment, the Tesla Model Y took the top spot with 6,162 units, driven by its overwhelming performance and innovative self-driving features. The Model Y received strong support from environmentally conscious consumers in the electric vehicle market, thanks to its long driving range and excellent charging infrastructure. The combination of Tesla's brand value and cutting-edge technology led domestic demand for electric vehicles. Notably, sales of the Model Y grew rapidly by 81.0% compared to the same month last year.
The Mercedes-Benz E-Class followed in second place with 2,595 units (+4.8%), targeting the luxury car market with its high-end interior and stable driving performance. The BMW 5 Series ranked third with 2,255 units (+43.3%), appealing to business professionals with its superior handling and sophisticated design. The subsequent rankings were the Mercedes-Benz GLC (1,011 units, +20.9%), Mercedes-Benz GLE (604 units, +15.9%), BMW 3 Series (574 units, +31.7%), BMW X3 (544 units, -1.6%), MINI Cooper (507 units, newly released), Lexus ES (467 units, -9.5%), and BMW 7 Series (400 units, +7.8%). The top rankings were primarily dominated by premium sedans and SUVs from German brands.
