[비즈한국] A solo exhibition by Jeon Joon-yeop, known as the "painter who draws whales," will be held at Khalifa Gallery in Apgujeong, Seoul, from the 25th of this month to the 12th of next month.
Titled "In the Garden of Light," this exhibition features Jeon's new works, including his "Homage Series" and "Memories of a Star Series."
The Homage Series showcases the freedom of art through the meeting of space-traveling whales and the works of Eastern and Western artists who have served as mentors to the painter. In "Thoughts on Hopper," a whale swims through space behind the subjects of Edward Hopper's "Nighthawks." In "Thoughts on Wyeth," the woman from Andrew Wyeth's "Christina's World" gazes at a swimming whale. The "Memories of a Star" series consists of works that offer philosophical reflections on the importance of daily life.
Fantastic situations that could never happen in reality unfold within Jeon Joon-yeop's paintings: a whale flying through the night sky with its mouth full of flowers, or a desert fox living on a small planet. These are things made possible only through art. The artist shared his thoughts, saying, "I poured into my work my desire to provide comfort and show a light of hope to those living through difficult realities. I hope people will come to visit the garden of light guided by the whales."
Jeon Joon-yeop majored in painting at Chung-Ang University College of Art. Since his first solo exhibition in 1986, he has held 41 solo exhibitions and participated in over 350 group exhibitions in cities including Seoul, Tokyo, Los Angeles, Munich, Paris, Hong Kong, and Miami. He has also been invited to over 100 art fairs in 15 countries across the U.S., Europe, and Asia, including KIAF.
Prior to this solo exhibition, he participated in fairs in Hong Kong and Kaohsiung, Taiwan, in collaboration with Khalifa Gallery, receiving praise from international collectors. His future endeavors both domestically and abroad are highly anticipated.
The exhibition is open for viewing from Tuesday to Sunday, between 12:00 PM and 6:00 PM.
