[비즈한국] Artist Jung Soo-kyung, who finds spirituality in naturalistic aesthetics, is holding a new exhibition. Her solo exhibition, ‘Infiltrate and Emerge’, has been running since the 14th at Topohaus Seoul in Insa-dong, Seoul.
Artist Jung Soo-kyung is well-known for her 'Cheongeum' (Clear Sound) series, which depicts lush bamboo forests. She has been painting bamboo forests ever since she became captivated by them in Gwangyang, where she had traveled over a decade ago to paint plum blossoms. Recently, she has also been turning her warm gaze toward clusters of flowers blooming in fields.
The artist discovers raw emotions and poetic beauty in the existence of wild plants that form colonies and fiercely sustain life. The mountain ridges stretching out are infinitely soft, and one can almost hear the sound of endlessly flowing water. Butterflies flutter in a zig-zag pattern from flower to flower. Fallen leaves from the flowerbed ascend to the sky, transforming into stars.
Jung Soo-kyung works using a dripping technique, where she places the canvas on the floor and drops paint onto it. This repetitive act of scattering paint onto the canvas with a brush prioritizes sound over form. It is a harmony of space creation unique to dripping, color balance, and the subtle sounds of splashing paint.
This exhibition features the large-scale work (400-ho, 190×400cm) ‘Cheongeum·Clear Sound’, inspired by bamboo forests and the wind. Also on display are the ‘Bloom’ and ‘Emerge’ series, which reveal the cycle of seasons where fallen petals rot as new ones descend, alongside her recent ‘Anima’ series, which takes the star as a motif.
Artist Jung Soo-kyung graduated from the Department of Painting at Hongik University and its Graduate School of Fine Arts. She has held 12 solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group exhibitions. The exhibition runs until June 2nd, and admission is free.
