[비즈한국] The National Assembly passed a resolution demanding the lifting of martial law around 1:00 a.m. on the 4th, approximately two hours and 40 minutes after President Yoon Suk Yeol declared emergency martial law.
The National Assembly held a plenary session around 1:00 a.m. on the 4th and passed the resolution demanding the lifting of martial law with a unanimous vote of 190 present members.
Article 77, Paragraph 5 of the Constitution stipulates that "if the National Assembly requests the lifting of martial law with the concurrence of a majority of the members of the National Assembly, the President shall comply."
Previously, President Yoon Suk Yeol declared emergency martial law on the night of the 3rd. President Yoon held an emergency address at the Yongsan Presidential Office around 10:25 p.m. that night, stating, "To safeguard a free Republic of Korea from the threats of North Korean communist forces, to eradicate the shameless pro-North anti-state forces that are plundering the freedom and happiness of our people, and to protect the free constitutional order, I hereby declare emergency martial law."
