[비즈한국] Artist Lee Chul-soo, who captures the communion between nature and humanity on canvas, offers visitors a profound artistic experience through his solo exhibition, "Our Mountains and Rivers - Pine Tree." This exhibition will shed new light on the beauty of our landscape through works that embody the "gi" (energy) and "yeobaek" (empty space) felt in nature, as well as the artist's own philosophy.
The solo exhibition "Our Mountains and Rivers - Pine Tree" by artist Lee Chul-soo, which runs from November 5 to December 12 at MediaZen Art Space in Magok-dong, Gangseo-gu, Seoul, will feature numerous works that express the "gi" and "yeobaek" felt in nature through the artist's unique perspective.
Artist Lee Chul-soo captures the eternity of our country’s nature on canvas, expressing the communion between the finitude of human beings and the persistence of nature. His work explores the human existence within the eternal cycle of nature, and he is acclaimed for meticulously capturing the changes in nature throughout the four seasons and the human emotions that bloom within them.
In this solo exhibition, visitors can encounter a variety of works that capture Lee Chul-soo's deep affection for nature and the moments of communion between people and the natural world. Visitors are expected to have the opportunity to view our mountains and rivers from a new perspective, following Lee Chul-soo’s gaze as he explores the "idea" within nature. In particular, by capturing the beauty of nature that the artist personally felt and experienced, the exhibition is expected to provide a moving experience, making visitors feel as if they are becoming part of nature itself.
Regarding his creative process, the artist explained, "I face a blank canvas without any preconceptions and paint the flowers that enter my eyes and the moon and stars that enter my heart," describing the process of completing his works through inspiration from nature. He says that he becomes part of nature while moving his brush, and that these moments in nature are his happiest times. The works born from this process depict the moments of becoming one with nature, aiming to convey the emotional impact of those moments to the audience.
To date, artist Lee Chul-soo has held a total of 40 solo exhibitions, participated in 20 booth exhibitions and biennales, and contributed to over 400 group and invitational exhibitions, maintaining a consistent career. He graduated from Hongik University with a degree in Oriental Painting and a master's degree in the same major, and studied Art Education at the Dongguk University Graduate School of Education. He has also dedicated himself to the development of the art world by serving as a judge for events such as the Grand Art Exhibition of Korea and the Seoul Art Grand Prix. Furthermore, he is currently active as a director of the Korean Fine Arts Association, a director of the Woogang Scholarship Foundation, and a director and competition committee member for the Korea Elementary Golf Federation.
